Dancing the night away at the Les Trois Rois Suite in Basel, Switzerland – A test report.

The Les Trois Rois Suite is known for its luxurious and generous (2700 square feet!) interior and for famous celebrities, such as Roger Federer (which slept just a few days before my stay in the very same bed!), Elizabeth II and Pablo Picasso that inhabited this remarkable piece of extravagance before. It is said that the Rowling Stones once rented the whole first floor and that a sheik very recently accommodated his whole harem at Hotel Les Trois Rois ***** that was established in 1681.

Last November me and my closest friends spent two days at the Les Trois Rois Suite in Basel. We mainly danced our feet off and in-between enjoyed the fancy view over whole Basel and the Rhine from our private open-air Jacuzzi. And I admit to have used the private “Finnish” sauna during my dancing breaks. The dazzling fairy lights inside the sauna are so relaxing that you just have to nod off and start dreaming. The whole Les Trois Rois staff was just wonderful and they really made me feel like a queen. We got a private tour through the whole Hotel with the General Manager and it was fantastic. A big shout out goes also to a very special Lady from the marketing departement who is responsable for the most beautiful day in my life! I’ve been quite a few times at the Les Trois Rois and no matter if you go there for a drink or book the Les Trois Rois Suite, they fulfil you every wish.

Interior

If you ever plan a trip to Basel, the Les Trois Rois Suite is worth a visit. Besides the obvious and already mentioned qualities, the Les Trois Rois Suite does have two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room with dining tables and a seating group with an open fireplace. It is designed in an Art-Déco and Neo-classicism style and makes you feel cosy and like you are part of a different time where door-opening men were still standard and not the exception. Thomas Straumann, billionaire and owner of Les Trois Rois handpicked every piece of furniture himself.

Food & Beverages

I would recommend you to eat dinner at the Cheval Blanc Restaurant at Hotel Les Trois Rois since it has two stars Michelin gourmet, 18 Gault Millau points and is the best in town. If it is fully booked, the Restaurant Brasserie with view of the Rhine and candle light or the Restaurant Chez Donati, which is a few meters away from the hotel, are good alternatives.

And in case you need a Burger, Sushi, Caviar or something else to eat at 3 am, you can still call the concierge, who is eager to anticipate your every wish. The mini bar is stacked with beverages and is for free. (By the way, you can even assign the concierge to go buy a Rolex for you in the middle of the night. Not that we would do such an unnecessary thing…)

Leisure

Besides an old beautiful open lobby, a bar that serves the most inventive drinks and has recently won a Cocktail competition, the Les Trois Rois has a cigar room available. If you want to go shopping I would recommend you to go to the “Freie Strasse” where mainly all the luxury stores like Hermès, Louis Vuitton etc. are located at.

Packages and Specials

The Queen for a day package costs 17000 USD and includes: One overnight stay at the Les Trois Rois suite, a shopping experience at the luxury boutique Bongénie Grieder. In addition you get an exclusive beauty treatment (hairstyling, makeup and manicure), a professional photo shoot, a personalized cocktail, a 5-course menu, a cook book “ma cuisine passionée”, a Lavish Dom Pérignon champagne brunch in the privacy of the suite and guided tour to the Queen’s favorite museum with limousine shuttle. Check out is at 6 pm.

I recommend this package to anybody that has to make up to his or her girlfriend, fiancé, wife or mother.

Kelly M. is a long-haired “bon vivant”. Her mother named her after the famous Kelly bag from Hermès. Kelly likes to spend her sunny days in her garden near the pool. She certainly enjoys the bright side of life, most of all eating and all other activities that are beneficial for her body and soul. As Oscar Wilde said: “Looking good and dressing well is a necessity, having a purpose in life is not.”

Hey Connie. Thank you for your comment. I think your articles are really funny :-) Besides, the one with the priest was cracking me up… If there is a next time you go visit the Hotel les Trois Rois, I would step in a little further and take a fancy drink at the bar. Their drinks really are delicious!
